What sorts of things can be addressed in counselling?
Counselling can help with a wide range of issues such as relationship difficulties, depression, bereavement, loss, developing assertiveness, sexuality, stress, problems with alcohol or drugs, trauma, anxiety, work issues and dealing with change. Counselling can be short-term and focused on one particular issue or be longer-term, to enable work at a greater depth.
Counselling is usually arranged by the individual (or couple) themselves although referrals from employers are welcomed, with the consent of the member of staff. Derek has extensive experience of workplace issues and working as part of an EAP (employee assistance programme) organisation supporting major organisations. He has particular expertise in managing critical incidents and working with individuals and groups regarding the effects of trauma.
As an accredited member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), Derek works within their Ethical Framework and guidelines for confidentiality.
